  Red Geraniums

Lowest on white ranking, the Ewells live in the dump near the “Negros settlements.” Surviving in a filthy and trashy environment with old cars in the front yard, Mayella Ewell--- the daughter of the house--- grows red geraniums in “six slop jars

Mayella is a Ewell. The Ewells are at the lowest of the white ranking. They live in the dump near the Black people's houses. The place is filthy, with trash and old cars in their front yard. There is one thing that really pops, the red geraniums, that are grown by Mayella. The six slop jars holding the seeds of the flowers represent a new life. Mayella does not want to be living in a dump. She does not want to be isolated from the reset of the society. She does not want to be considered "white-trash". The red geraniums represent a new life. The seed keeps on growing inside the jar, but they do not get anywhere. Just like Mayella, who is now nineteen, but is still stuck in the dump, since she is a Ewell.
